The directory in numbers
We maintain a 41-tool directory and recheck it when tools change. That work produces measurements. Here they are, with what each one is for.
What we do: Teka runs a directory of 41 AI tools — one page per tool, updated when the tool changes, no affiliate links, every outbound link to the maker's own site. Maintaining it means rechecking pages against reality on a schedule. This page is the log of what those rechecks measured in July 2026. Four numbers, each with a use. Every figure is dated July 23, 2026, and moves.
1. Three makers produce a fifth of the directory
Of 41 tools across 8 categories: OpenAI makes 4 (ChatGPT, DALL·E, Sora, Codex), Google makes 3 (Gemini, Veo, Gemini Notebook), Anthropic makes 2 (Claude, Claude Code). Teka makes 6, disclosed on every page they appear. Nine of 41 entries come from three companies.
Use it like this: when you pick a tool from one of those three, you are also picking its ecosystem — account, billing, model line, and roadmap come attached. Check whether the tools around it in your stack come from the same maker before you commit.
2. A covered tool changes identity every 2.7 weeks
Windsurf became Devin Desktop. NotebookLM became Gemini Notebook. xAI moved under SpaceX. Eight weeks.
Between late May and late July 2026, three of the 41 changed name or owner: Windsurf → Devin Desktop under Cognition (June 2026), NotebookLM → Gemini Notebook (July 2026), and Grok's maker xAI → SpaceX (acquired February 2, 2026, branding consolidating since). Three changes over eight weeks in a 41-tool sample is one every 2.7 weeks.
Use it like this: put a date on every tool reference you publish, and recheck any tool documentation older than a quarter before repeating it. This rate is also why each directory page carries a date and gets re-edited rather than left to age.
3. One investor sits behind four entries
Accel holds positions behind at least four directory tools: it led Paper's seed round, led Lovable's Series A, backed Cursor's maker Anysphere, and invested in Anthropic. Teka holds positions in none of them.

4. llms.txt is common; markdown for machines is rare
On July 22–23, 2026 we fetched robots.txt, sitemap files, and llms.txt from 22 sites: 10 workspace platforms, 10 AI services firms, and our own two. Results: 13 of 22 serve an llms.txt. In the workspace set, 5 of 10 do (ClickUp, Monday, Zapier, Glide, Softr), 3 have none (Airtable, HubSpot, Stan), 1 blocks the path, and 1 — Notion — also serves a separate markdown sitemap for machine readers, the only one in the sample. Two declare crawler Content-Signals (Monday, Zapier). In the services set, 8 of 10 serve an llms.txt; they range from auto-generated link dumps to one hand-written document that tells AI readers how to describe the firm.
Use it like this: an llms.txt no longer differentiates; it is expected. The open ground is per-page markdown and callable interfaces — defined in What is docs-for-agents?, with the reference implementations in What do the top labs publish for AI readers?.
Method
Sample: the 41 directory tools; 20 competitor sites chosen by positioning proximity (10 workspace platforms, 10 AI services firms); our own two sites. All checks were plain first-party fetches on July 22–23, 2026 — no third-party SEO tools, no purchased datasets. When these numbers drift, this page gets re-sampled under a new date. It does not get silently edited.
