And so the young boy king…
It all started when I was 12 years old. My mom got a guitar and was playing simple chord tracks to female-folk artists she loved like Neko Case & Patty Griffin. I would borrow her guitar and learn in my bedroom. I was able to get the basics down. Then when I was fifteen, my friends and I had the idea to make comedy style sketch songs and perform at the open mic in our local "small town city" Provo, Utah. I secretly loved it more than them, I could feel it. I wanted to share deep feelings in my heart, so I started to write and sing, connecting to my emotional side. I wrote a song called 'Cold Mountain' and 'Desert Dream'. I eventually played it for my friends, brushing it off like 'it's just a random track, you know…" but I was quite nervous. I played it and they ran and grabbed their parents and were like "Mom listen to this!". I decided to start playing more seriously.
A few months later I won a small time "battle of the bands" and was able to get practice making an album. A cd my dad would play in his truck for the final 5 or so years of his life. It was the disc in his truck when he died…
Foolish prince who's dad died early…
